In this system, your property’s Earth and Neutral lines are combined into a single conductor (the PEN conductor) in the street. If this combined cable in the street is ever damaged or breaks (an “Open PEN fault”):

• The electrical current has no safe way to return to the grid.

• This can cause the outer metal body of your electric vehicle to become live with 230V of electricity.
